Mr. LING HON. The British Foreign Minister wired to

Craigie and Kerr on the 12th to the effect that :-

(1) Germany will go to war after the Autumn harvest.

(2) The U.S.A. has had many internal troubles, and

(3) The elder Japanese Statesmen can still be influenced:

to bring about a temporary compromise; but it does not

mean that Britain is yielding to the Japanese. It means

that in 6 months time Britain will be in a position to send

her battleships to Singapore. Should a split occur now

between Britain and Japan, Britain would not be in a

position to fight (Japan and Germany ?).
